One of the best free plugins ever created just received a massive new update. And it is glorious.
ValhallaSupermassive from Valhalla DSP is one of my absolute favourite effect plugins ever. Not only is it completely free, it also provides unique reverb and delay effects that many premium plugins could only dream of.
Valhalla DSP released version 3.0 of ValhallaSupermassive last week, adding two new modes: LEO and VIRGO.
For the uninitiated, ValhallaSupermassive has a pretty straightforward set of controls and loads of presets to get stuck into, but everything revolves around what MODE you have selected.
As of version 3.0 there are 20 different modes, each with it’s own distinct reverb/delay algorithm. These different algorithms have very different attack, sustain, and decay characteristics.
The first of the new modes added in this 3.0 update, Leo provides lovely lush reverb and delay goodness to pretty much anything and is brilliant for adding extra depth to ambient and downtempo sounds.
Virgo is pretty much the opposite of Leo. It’s definitely more subtle, especially when you dial down the mix, but it’s good for adding a little extra colour to things like arpeggiated synths.
This cracking freebie continues to put many paid reverb/delay plugins to shame and I reckon its an essential addition to anyone’s Audio Unit effect collection.
