How To Sample in GarageBand

Learning how to Sample in GarageBand is super simple and a great way to add some unique sounds you don’t have access to from within the program itself.

In typical GarageBand style, the Sampler interface is straightforward to get to grips with, meaning you can dive in and get started right away.

In the video below I show you where to find the Sampler, how to load up your own samples, how to add them to your project and how to add third party instrument sounds too.

Now that you know how to sample in GarageBand, what plugin would you like to see me cover next? Leave a comment and let me know or get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.

  1. Hey Patrick- I am loving your tutorials about Garageband. Finally getting time to look at them with the lockdown. I have just done the one on samples. I had a question about them. Am I right in thinking you need to have a wav file to add as a sample? I’ve tried recording some of my own, but on Quicktime, and iPhone voice memo and garage band they all seem to come out as mp4s. I’ve found a few apps that record wav files, but only on iPhone and iPad so then I need to send to my desktop- and it’s a bit of a pain. I see wondershare have some convertor software, but thought I would ask your advice too. I am putting a project together and want to add samples from me and also from some kids in my life who are overseas, so trying to work out how to do it! Thanks in advance!

  2. Hey Patrick – thanks for all the guides, and I’m currently working my way through your quick start guide along with watching the how-to guide on Sampling, and I still need some advice. I’ve recorded a bunch of djembe drum lessons as voice-mails on my iPhone. I’ve imported them to my MacBook Air (with M1 chip) and want to edit each track (some are 1.5 hours long) and extract short sections to link together into one long session I will play along with on my drum. Am I missing something, not sure how to do this, any advice welcomed. Thank you!
