The GarageBand Guide has always been built around hands-on experience with music-making software and hardware.
AI tools are increasingly useful within the publishing process, and I may use them to assist with my work. However, they don’t replace the testing, knowledge, opinions or editorial judgement behind my content.
My approach is simple: AI can assist with how my content is produced, but the expertise behind it remains human.
My tutorials are based on real experience
Tutorials published by The GarageBand Guide are created from genuine experience using the software, features and techniques being discussed.
If I explain how to use a feature in GarageBand, Logic Pro or another piece of music-making software, the instructions are based on actual use of that software.
I don’t use AI to invent workflows, features, settings or techniques and present them as something I’ve personally tested.
My reviews and recommendations are human
Product testing, reviews, opinions, recommendations and conclusions are based on my real-world experience and editorial judgement.
If I say I’ve used, tested, heard or compared a piece of software, hardware or other product, that means I actually have.
I don’t use AI to fabricate product testing, listening impressions, measurements, interviews, quotations or first-hand experience.
I use AI as an editorial tool
I may use AI tools to assist with parts of the editorial process.
This can include editing and restructuring existing material, improving readability, summarising my own work, adapting video scripts into written articles, updating older content, suggesting headlines and assisting with formatting or SEO metadata.
AI may also be used to help repurpose material between The GarageBand Guide’s different platforms. For example, an original YouTube script may be restructured with AI assistance before being edited and published as an article.
In these situations, AI is being used as an editorial tool. The underlying knowledge, testing and experience remain mine.
Facts and instructions are checked by me
AI tools can produce inaccurate information, including convincing descriptions of features or settings that don’t actually exist.
Technical information introduced with the assistance of AI is therefore checked before publication. This includes software features, compatibility information, product specifications, prices and instructions.
I don’t consider an AI-generated answer to be a source.
For tutorials in particular, my aim is that the steps I publish reflect how the software actually works, rather than simply how an AI system says it works.
I will never knowingly publish AI-generated claims implying first-hand experience that did not happen.
That includes claims that I’ve tested a product, used a particular feature, spoken to someone, heard a piece of equipment or reached a conclusion through testing when I have not done so.
The same standard applies to older articles and videos that are subsequently updated, rewritten or republished.
AI-generated or AI-assisted material is never published automatically.
Articles are reviewed, edited and approved by me before publication. The final responsibility for the accuracy, opinions, recommendations and instructions contained in my content sits with me, not with an AI system.
I disclose substantial use of AI
I don’t believe routine editorial assistance requires a disclosure every time an AI tool is used.
Using AI to help restructure an existing article, turn one of my video scripts into written content, improve a headline or assist with other editorial tasks is part of my publishing process.
If generative AI plays a substantial role in creating the actual content of an article rather than assisting with editing or transforming my existing work, I’ll make that clear to readers.
The same principle applies to AI-generated images, audio or other media when their synthetic nature could reasonably affect a reader’s understanding of what they’re seeing or hearing.
The GarageBand Guide exists to help people make music using advice, tutorials and recommendations grounded in real-world experience.
The technology I use to produce that content will continue to evolve.
The testing, expertise, opinions, editorial judgement and accountability behind The GarageBand Guide remain human.
