Baby Audio release Transit 2 for iOS with intro offer

Plugin developer Baby Audio have announced that Transit 2 (the next-generation version of their powerful motion-FX / transition tool originally developed for desktop DAWs in collaboration with Andrew Huang) is now available on iOS.

What makes this especially interesting for us GarageBand and iOS music makers is the very generous introductory pricing: $9.99/£9.99 for the first month.

Here’s a summary of how Baby Audio explains the pricing model:

  • On desktop (Mac/PC) they’ve been able to offer a traditional “upgrade” path for owners of V1 who move to V2 (for example $29/£29).
  • On the App Store (iOS) such upgrade paths aren’t supported in exactly the same way. Therefore they’re shipping V2 as a new App and offering an “intro-sale/upgrade price” to everyone (whether you owned V1 or not) of $9.99/£9.99 for a limited period. After that the full price will go to $29.99/£29.99.
  • If you already own V1 on iOS you’re not forced to upgrade. V1 remains for sale and will continue to be supported for a time. They plan to retire new-sales of V1 (after about six months) but existing users will still be able to run it.
  • They explain the technical reason: V2 uses a different architecture, it couldn’t simply overwrite V1 without risk of breaking older sessions. So V2 has to be released as a separate App.

As their forum post over at The Loopy Pro Forum says:

“Therefore, we’re going to create an upgrade path that we’ll just make available to everyone… releasing V2 as a new App and pricing it for a limited time at the same price point we’d have charged if we were able to create an upgrade path … $9.99. The regular price after this sale ends will be $29.99.”

This is a very fair deal for iOS users. Many makers offer “intro” pricing for new Apps, but here the logic is explicitly tied into fairness for existing V1 owners, and the price is very low for what you get.

What does Transit 2 offer (for iOS)?

Transit 2 offers some seriously powerful upgrades over the previous version

In terms of features, Transit 2 builds on the original Transit, offering serious upgrades:

  • Six motion modes: Macro (the original one-knob motion mode) plus LFO, Follower, Sidechain, Gate, and Sequencer. These give you a wide palette of movement, from rhythmic pulses and sequenced transitions to dynamic side-chained sweeps.
  • A total of 28 effect modules (10 new modules added in V2). The modules include modulation, degradation, vintage style FX, reverb, delay, various filter types, a synth oscillator, noise generator etc. (In other words: more than just a “transition plug-in” it can be a full creative motion FX playground).
  • The core idea remains that you link multiple parameters of these effect modules to one global “T-knob” or motion control, automate it (or trigger via sequencer) and instantly build big genre-style transitions, sweeps, risers or even subtle movement across your track parts, but now expanded in versatility.
  • Workflow improvements: on iOS this means you can use it as an AUv3 plug-in inside your mobile DAW (such as GarageBand, Logic Pro etc.) and take advantage of the new motion modes and modules.

At just $9.99/£9.99 for the full iOS version, Baby Audio’s Transit 2 is a steal. You’re getting the same feature-packed motion and FX engine desktop users pay triple the price for, complete with new modules, advanced motion modes and full AUv3 support for iPad and iPhone.

Whether you owned the first Transit or are completely new to it, this launch offer gives you a powerful, pro-level transition designer for a very reasonable price. Don’t miss it!
