How to Screen Record GarageBand on Mac with Audio

Want To Screen Record GarageBand on Mac With Audio? Are you a GarageBand for Mac user who wants to share a screen recording of your project to places like FaceBook?

Quicktime player comes free with every Mac and while it does allow you to capture your screen, there’s no way to record your project’s audio at the same time.

All is not lost however, as you can use another free program that comes with your Mac to create the perfect screen recording of your latest magnum opus.

In the video below I show you how it works..

  1. There is another way! You can install the small App ‘Soundflowet’. This acts as a virtual sound card. In ‘Settings’ route the audio to Soundflower. In QuickTime set the audio to ‘Record from SoundFlowet’. Make the screen recording. Do not forget to put the ‘Settings’ back to normal after the recording.

  2. That’s a pity. If have a Mid 2011 iMac, which run on MacOS 10.13.6. SoundFlower runs on it, but as you said I cannot route the GB audio with it! I had not tried that yet, as, since I have an iPad, I mostly use GB on the iPad. Making a screen recording on that is not an issue! Now I am here I want to thank you (an Pete Johns) for making your nice tutorials. #staysave. And greetings from Holland.

  3. Instructions with more than three steps are wasted on me. Sad but true. I made a screen recording in QTP added it to the movie track in Gb (trimmed) and had a 66mB m4v file made. I’ll publish it on FB’s “Garageband users”. Probably it’s been before.

  4. Well, nothing is easy. My attempt to paste a screen recording of the template in the template works fine on the Mac but on the FB-page there is no sound neither as m4v, MP4 or MOV. So I guess , well …

  5. Hi Patrick,
Thank you very much for your guidance on-line. I have been using iPhone 8plus to create projects in Garageband. Now I have MacBook Pro and using GarageBand. The option on iPhone interface of LIVE LOOPS and TRACKS function, how can I find and use TRACKS functions on Mac.
Thanks for your support and time.
