GarageBand Plugin Fix

GarageBand Missing Plugin Fix

Whether it’s spending a bloody fortune on the latest and greatest AU plugin that’ll take your projects to the next level, or grabbing a cool wee freebie, adding to GarageBand’s built in arsenal of plugins is something most GarageBand for MacOS users will do at some point.

As good as broadening your sonic horizons is, when things go wrongs, it sucks.

Going to the trouble of installing your effect or instrument plugin, only to find that it’s nowhere to be found once you load up GarageBand is a bit of a nightmare.

In the video below, i’ll share a great GarageBand plugin fix.

So there you have it, that’s your GarageBand plugin fix.

  1. I followed your instructions. My version of Garageband 10.3.4 doesn’t show any plug-ins like at 3:35 in the video. I’m a complete novice so it may be something obvious. I could not find instructions about installing plug-ins in GarageBand Quick Start Guide.

  2. Could you just rename those two Library files by adding a prefix like “Old.” to their names?
That way, if the change makes Mac or Garageband go bongoes, all the user would have to do is to access the Library and remove the prefix from the changed file names, then probably restart the Mac.

  3. So I have an unique issue with GB and Waves plugins.
1st of all, ONLY stereo versions of these plugins show in GB.
But most important, some do not show at all, no matter what.

They work in Logic, even Audacity.

I followed this guide, then a guide Waves provide, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Waves plugins.

Some will just refuse to show up on GB….

I run the latest Catalina and GB versions available at the time of this post 🙂

  4. I agree! It’s almost as annoying as looking for a solution to the problem and every webpage you find wants you to waste time watching a damn video instead of just telling you what to do so you can get back to work.

  5. Oh well. The cash folder had no audio files. Deleting the helper and restarting – still no plug-in. But thanks anyway!

  6. This did not work. I have a brand new MB Pro M1 and I only downloaded one free plug in, Soft Piano by Spitfire/Labs. Dumped the two files as instructed in this video, restarted, still nowhere to be found. Suggestions?

  7. If anyone is going to know what to do…..you are :)…..HELP

Has anyone experienced a problem after upgrading to mac OS Ventura!!!! Garageband or Mainstage 3 won’t open? I have a Mac at work and garage band opens ok as I’ve never used it so guessing its a plugin issue??? Any solution?

    Just wished I hadn’t upgraded!!!!!!!
