Free GarageBand Loops

Go do a google search for ‘free GarageBand loops’ right now. It’s cool, i’ll wait…

Done?

I’m sure you noticed the huge number of places you can grab new samples from, the problem being that you just don’t know if what you’re downloading is good quality or even if it’s compatible with GarageBand.

Whether you can’t quite find a loop that sounds just right for your project or you just feel like the existing loops have simply lost their lustre, I guarantee you’ll ask yourself this question at some point in your GarageBand career:

‘Where can I get more loops?’

It certainly ranks up there as one of the questions people ask me the most.

I’ve dredged through enough crappy, useless free download loop samples in my time to know that when you find a resource that provides consistently great quality audio samples, you stick with them.

Which is where these guys come in…

In the video below I share one of my favourite places on the web to download high quality and completely free loops, samples and sound effects for use in GarageBand on both Mac AND iOS:

  1. Thanks for this. I am getting a little sick of the same old drum beats just downloading some new ones now.

      1. Its all non free. This is a bogus attention post. Non helpful. You have to pay in some way for everything mentioned here. Stupid.

      1. Hey Patrick,
Nice video! Informative and well produced.
I’ve always been a fan of loopmasters
I’ve got over 600 free loops I’m giving away on my site http://www.loopartists.com
You can preview any of them before downloading and they are 100% Royalty Free.
If you enjoy the site it would be really cool to see you do a new video.
        Cheers,
        ~Jon

  2. Brilliant – had to wade through a plethora of rotten dubstep samples, but the classical sounds I got were great.

      1. Hi Patrick

        Great site.

What so you consider the best plugin for getting good synth sounds? I am trying Zebralette but it doesn’t seem to be coming up in effect dropdown in GB, only Zebra2?

        Thanks

        1. Hey Dave,

I think it’s because Zebralette is effectively a demo version of Zebra 2…

          From the Zebralette download page:

“OK, Zebralette is just one of Zebra2’s oscillators packed into a simple, easy-to-learn framework – but you have everything you need to make some pretty amazing sounds. Sounds that can be directly loaded into Zebra2 later. And should you eventually decide to upgrade to Zebra2, you will already know everything there is to know about the oscillators – which is quite an advantage!”

It’s still a pretty fun plug in to play around with.

If you’re looking for more synth awesomeness, check out the Resourses page and look out for the “Synth Heaven” heading.

          Hope that helps!

  3. Hi Patrick,

Having a problem loading the wav sample files into Garageband 11 on my Mac. The files don’t load when dropped onto the loop window as shown in your video. I have to drop them directly into the track window but when doing this, they become distorted and sound terrible. Any idea what could be going on?

  4. Well you missed the best, free source of high quality loos that install themselves and are already tagged – MainStage!

Yes MainStage costs a few quid (a pittance for what it is, and it may be of no use to you if you don’t play live) but with that you can then download all the JamPacks that used to cost as much each as one copy of MainStage, as well as more complete collections of the HipHop, R&B, Dubstep, House etc. loops that come with GarageBand 10, and a ton of instruments and patches.

  5. Hi there! I have a question; I downloaded some samples from loop masters and followed the directions to put them in my loop library, however when I click and drag the .wav file in to the loop area nothing happens. No dialog window, I just noticed that my mouse pointer turns in to a “green with a plus” sign. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

    1. Hey Axel – the demo loops you can download for free are still copyrighted – once you purchase loops from a pack, you are able to use them as you wish.

  6. I got a new computer and have the newer version of garageband. I’ve been going through all my old garageband files from about 6 years ago from an external harddrive and some of the loops I used way back when are not on the newer version. Is there a way to find these old ones? I’m looking for a specific one called trip hop airhead beat. If anyone can help me, I’d love you forever!

    1. @KO – Trip Hop Airhead Beat (nice beat BTW!) is part of Jam Pack Remix Tools which, as you’ll know from my previous comment ;), you can get for free (along with the rest of the Jam Packs and a bunch of others – altogether totalling 17,695 loops) by purchasing MainStage for the princely sum of $30.

      1. Mainstage is BEAST Matt, and definitely a no-brainer investment.

Mainstage would be the easiest way to get your hands on your loop KO, though you could also reinstall Garageband 6.0.5 if you have an iLife ’11 install disk…

  7. Hi,

Is there such a thing as pre-made backing tracks for garage band?

Ones you can remove the vocals and sing along to or remove the lead guitar and jam along to?

Or remove/mute any specific track you like in order to play/sing-along with.

Made one or two myself for my own use but it’s a long hard process.

    Thanks

  8. Hi,

  10. Hi Patrick what is the easiest way to get my Apple loops and samples from my desktop version to my iOS version? I have a bunch of those discs that Apple sold years ago of samples and loops and I’m clueless on how I can get them easily into my iPadPro. Thank You

  11. Hi Patrick, how can I transpose a part of my arrangement? I tried it, but it didn’t work. Are there any tricks I don’t know?

  12. I’m looking for mandolin. Banjo, fiddle, dobro type loops. Struggling to find some. Any help of course would be greatly received.
