Can You Use GarageBand Loops Commercially?

It’s one of the questions I get asked most – can you use the loops and sounds that come bundled with GarageBand in your own commercial projects. (ie – make money from music that contains GarageBand Copyright content).

In the video below, I definitively answer that question.

I also give an insight into how to deal with some of the copyright pitfalls that come with posting your music on one of the world’s biggest music streaming platforms – YouTube.

Have you ever had to deal with any GarageBand copyright issues while releasing or sharing your own music?

  1. Hi Patrick, Kwekwe here and yes a few times I’ve gotten copyright notices on YouTube. I fought them and won each time, makes it a bit of a PITA using the loops from Logic/Garageband.

  2. I haven’t used loops (yet), but I use & customize the AI drummers.

Thst being stated, however, I only use them on demos of songs to give collaborating drummers ideas of what I am desiring for beats for songs.

Although I was a teen in the ‘80s, I’ve never been a fan of piblished music that utilizes drum machines or pre-recorded loops. I am not just a song writer, I am MUSICIAN & believe that music should be PLAYED not “copied & pasted” (or how it was when I went to recording engineering school back in 1990, during the days when analog tape still ruled, “cut & splice.”)

  3. I just uploaded a song I’ve made using GarageBand loops on soundcloud and it was removed because apparently someone else has used the same loops and uploaded their work before me. I have disputed their claim based on the fact that I’ve used a loop that was available to everyone royalty free and with no copyright and I have definitely not copied the other producers work in any way. I’m still waiting for their response to see what’s going on.
