Garageband 2015 Update – Everything We Know So Far

Apple announced this week that Garageband will get receive a rather hefty update on June 30th!!

It’s been a while since the 10.0.3 update graced us with its presence and it’s great to see Apple are still committed to adding to and improving Garageband.

So what changes should we expect? What new features will we get to play with? Find out in the video!

As if that wasn’t enough we can also expect an overhaul to the current piano roll set up as well as possible integration with Apple’s inbound ‘Music’ service.

Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on this latest update, but what do you think? Let me know what you make of it in the comments below!

  1. Hey there Patrick,
thank you again for all the great info all the time. This update is special for me because I was using Camel Audio’s Alchemy when it became suddenly unretrievable. Looking forward to playing with those synth sounds.
    Thanks again,
    Jim

  2. A clean punch in app would be a great improvement over the present kluge, or am I the only musician who makes mistakes?

    1. Definitely not the only one Art, but there’s currently not a better solution in Garageband than manually moving the playhead to where you need to start recording from, switching off the count in feature and hitting record unfortunately 🙁

      1. I leave the count in on, as it actually starts recording before the punch in point. This means after you record you can drag the audio file back to during the count in, to get exactly where you need to be.

  3. Any chance we’ll be able to easily program drums again? Thanks for the news btw on the update!

  4. Hi patrick, your guides has been so much helpful to me.. thank you so much for that. Just one question, why don’t i have a “legacy” option in my garageband 10 where i can choose my vocals with no effects??
    Regards
    Niraj

      1. I bought my mac last January where GB was free with 10.0.2 version . Do I need to upgrade to get ” legacy ” option? Help!

  5. Hey Patrick!

I performed the update for Garage Band yesterday. While playing around I saw a few cool pedal steel guitar loops in Apple loops. I went back into GB today and now I can’t find these cool Apple pedal steel loops. Where’d they go?
    Thank You!

  6. Hey Patrick,
I just couldn’t wait to see the reviews on the new GB update so I downloaded it last night.
So far , just checking out the new synth sounds. Very Cool !! However, a bit ago I decided to start a new project and really have some fun with this Transform pad within the smart controls and , while having cycle record activated I recorded eight bars of the Pulsing Patterns moving from pad to pad. This is so awesome !! But, during playback it only plays back one time. I can see the movement from pad to pad but no sound , just my drum track. All in ( cycle mode )
Just wondering if I’m doing something wrong ?
    Thanks again,
    Jim

  7. Personally, I’ve just about had it up to here with Garageband.

I have never liked the download concept that Apple is dictating to us these days, but it seems more and more apparent, to me, that they are rushing stuff out and they have no idea to fix it.

I have a 2011 mac mini server, a MBP 2012 non-Retina and a 2014 MBA, and NONE of them download the latest sounds successfully, the Apple ‘geniuses’ have no idea what is going on, and I am sick to death with their basic ‘go to’ of reinstalling everything again, this never happened with stand-alone installers.

I think this is it for me, first it was Time Machine on one of my macs not backing up anymore -even after the Apple ‘experts’ had a go, but now GB keeps trying to download the same content over and over again every time I start it…one machine I can live with, maybe, but three out of three?
