Top 3 GarageBand Secrets

There’s a reason why tens of thousands of green behind the ears would-be recording engineers/producers start out with GarageBand.

While at first glance GarageBand seems like a fairly straight forward and simple to use DAW, there’s some serious power under the hood. From Automation and AU plugin support to Flex time and the Drummer track, there’s a lot of very powerful features to get to grips with.

You can find tutorials and how to’s covering the vast majority of GarageBand’s higher profile features online (and on this very site). The program still has several lesser known secret features you may not be familiar with…

In this video, I share 3 of these secrets and show you how to use them to raise your GarageBand game.

  1. Hey Pat,

great stuff…! But I wonder what´s wrong with the pan pot in 10.2.0?
turning to the left of an audio track volume decreases, turning to the right in stays,
    but there is no PAN?

    puzzeled, Bert

  2. Hey Pat

I just bought a Marantz Professional MPM-2000U USB mic for my daughter. It sounds great! However There seems to be slight delay between the recorded vocal track and the instrumental track. As a result the vocal is not in sync with the musical track. How do we align the two tracks?

We are new to garage band – would really appreciate a step by step process to correct this.

    Thanks you

    1. Hi Mark
I play and program accompaniment tracks for my wife and me. I’ll provide drums, bass and whatever other instruments needed. I’ll select the best key and tempo. I transfer the tracks to my iPod and run that through our PA system. I usually give the beginning of the track a one or two bar tempo click so we start in tempo and on time. We sing and I play guitar live.
One of our favourite tunes is Tuesday Afternoon by the Moody Blues, so I’ve got flutes, strings, synths and choirs backing us. It’s lush and orchestral.
Although we’re a duo, with GarageBand we can enrich and enhance our sound spectrum and replicate any number of musical settings. Way better than Band in a Box and the like.
