How To Record Multiple Tracks – Q&A #12

In this edition of GarageBand Q&A, I answer a question from community member Rob, who is wondering if it’s possible to record multiple tracks at once using his Presonus Audiobox in GarageBand 10.2.

  1. I have recording experience but I am brand new to garageband. when i am setting up a track for recording, i’ve noticed that the input graph for the specific tracks in the work space area have very little spikes. it seems that it is not recording very hot. I have played with the EQ but that seems to get me in trouble.
When I set up a track EQ setting, it is only for the track and is separate from the master EQ setting- correct? they seem to conflict with each other and I know there must be a way to save them as patches or templates that I can apply to different songs. I have created my own but thats when I seem to bring down the quality and volume of the recording input levels. Should I be boosting the graph output for the individual tracks – or the master?
Should I be using more of the patches or templates that come with Garageband rather than creating my own?
Garageband is the coolest thing I’ve come across in many – many years, so it’s really bugging me…..

  2. I have problem with downloading the LePou plugins. I puts them in components and nothing happened in GarageBand plugins. can you help please? thanks!

  3. A friend has sent me a basic track with guitars, bass, a drum machine, and scratch vocal. He wants me to add keys, a piano track and an organ track. I however am TOTALLY new to GarageBand. How do I get his track into GarageBand so I can play along? Then how do I get that track back over to him? I have a stereo interface and the instruments I want to use, but when I open GarageBand virtually all commands are grayed out. I’m stuck!

  4. Hi, keep up the great work you’re doing. Had a question for you. Is there a way I can use my guitar to play all the instuments on GarageBand? Like using a midi app. I have an iPad, a Line 6 UX2 audio interface, iRig to connect my guitar to the iPad. Thanks.
