How To Export Your GarageBand Project

How To Export Your GarageBand Project

So you’ve written your new magnum opus and recorded it using GarageBand. You’ve painstakingly tweaked and fiddled with your sounds and are left with a perfect mix.

What now?

How do you get your multitrack GarageBand project into iTunes or uploaded to your favourite social platforms?

Luckily, GarageBand has several options when it comes to bouncing your project. Whatever option you choose, you’ll find it in the ‘Share’ menu in GarageBand’s toolbar at the top of your screen.

There you have it, that’s all of the ways you can share your GarageBand projects. How do usually go about sharing your songs? Which do you find easiest?

Let me know in the comments below, or come have a chinwag on Facebook or Twitter.

  1. Patrick, That’s some really good info. I’d like to upload songs to Spotify etc. but I’m not sure of the process. I’d appreciate some help. Thanks!

  2. Patrick,

Thank you for this email. How do I send the work to Dropbox, please? The person I’m sending and in collaboration with uses a October. I’m on a mac.

Other questions I have are: a). How can I change the tempo on an apple loop? There are many loops I’d love to sample instead of loop or cannot presently use because the tempo is not registered as being similar to mine. In the heels of that query, b). Can I delete / add or otherwise modify the loop as well as change the tempo?

    Thank you,

    JG

  3. I’ve been having some problems exporting my GarageBand arrangements, either to iTunes or Export to Disc. On several occasions, I have exported the song only to find later that only certain tracks, usually the drums and bass, can be heard, and the melody and harmonies are missing. This doesn’t happen all the time. Any idea why this would happen?

  4. Great advice as always, Patrick. I’m still seeing negative reviews though so have not updated to
the latest release. The ’11 Garageband works fine for my needs still. Is there a way to export to disc without compressing in this older, stable version?

    Cheers to the music!

  5. Hello Patrick,
I have to admit that I almost always use the ‘export song to disk’ option. It gives me the flexibility then to do whatever I want to do next with my project. I have folders on my hard disk which I put projects in by topic.

  6. Patrick, I have just experienced this situation however I don’t have a Mac only IPad. I wanted to upload my newest project to my website and my bandcamp page but was unable because the files were m4a. Completely by accident I discovered the Final Touch App which is a mastering app. I was able to do pretty cool mastering to my tracks and convert the files to wav and then upload to my site and bandcamp. I’m saving up for my MAC but until then…
If you check out my site myfaithfulspider.com everything you here and see was created on iPad. Truly changed my life.
Thanks for all your work. You were my first source for information when I bought my iPad.

  7. Thank you for teaching at a perfect pace. Your tutorials are the easiest to understand that I have seen.
I do have a question about exporting Garageband files / projects / songs. There may be times when I have to have them in .wav format for someone else to do something with in Pro Tools (at other people’s request – personally I don’t see any need for it). I haven’t seen any mention of that on your web site. It seems that GB doesn’t export .wav format – but do you know if Pro Tools can import and convert AIFF to wav – or if there is another program that can perform that conversion well? Thank you.

  8. I use garage band record my loops- and I cannot use garage band anymore, because it adds extra seconds at the end of the loop -making my loops impossible to use

  9. I have an interesting problem. When I go to “Share” I select “Song to iTunes,” When I get the choices, “.wav” is not an option. If I select “Mail” .wav is STILL not an option. I’ve even tried “Export Song to Disk” and I only get 3 options: AAC, MP3 and AIFF. No “Wave” option anywhere!!! Am I missing something here???? Please help! Thanks so much!

    1. Hey dan i am currently dealing with the same issue if u figured out how to deal with this problem i’d like to know thanks.

  10. tried bouncing a song just now, don’t know much about garage band except to create new file and push red button to record then play guitar and sing.
    easy peezy
just sent it off to an engineer that will know what to do with it.
wow, really , its so simple even a computer illiterate like myself can do it
thanks for the tutorials now I gotta spend the time to try and learn a bit more about it all

  11. Many thanks Patrick. This has been very useful. I now realise that I cannot easily get my songs onto Spotify but at least I now know

  12. I’m stumped. I want to export my GarageBand song from my iphone 13 to my Windows 11 PC. When I go into share there is no option for “export to disk”! I do not have or want iTunes on my phone. The file is to large for me to email it to myself, 125MB. I just want to be able to download the song into a PC file so I can import it into my video creator software. This is maddening! Thank you. – Don Kloss
