Add Loops To Garageband iOS

How To Add New Loops To Garageband iOS

Whether you’re just keeping track of ideas or putting together fully fledged projects, there’s no better way to create music on the go than with Garageband for iOS.

If like me you’ve all but exhausted the existing loops that come pre packaged with Garageband through hours of experimentation and recording, adding new sounds is definitely something you’ll want to do.

Trouble is, Apple haven’t exactly made it obvious HOW to add new loops to your mobile library…

In the video below, I walk you through how you can quickly add new loops to Garageband, so you can get right back to doing what you do best – creating awesome music on your iDevice!

If this video inspired you to get out there and grab some new loops for use in Garageband iOS, i’d recommend checking out Loopmasters.com. They’ve always got great sales and discounts and allow new users to download a huge amount of FREE loops. You can find out more here.

  1. I have a problem and wondering if anyone has seen this. I’m using Garageband 10. I want to save one of my regions as a loop. The region was made from a software instrument. I click on file, then “Add Region to Loop Library”. The region shows up as a loop in the Loops Browser for that project (it has a green icon in front of it, which is different from the blue icon in front of the other loops). However, if I open up another project, that loop does not show up. I go back to the original project, and it’s there again. My understanding is that when you create your own loops, they should be able to be used by any project. Seems like a bug. Is anyone else seeing this same behavior?

  2. I hope the following is helpful to some of your readers. Upgraded to Mavericks or Yosemite and suddenly found many of my old Garageband loops had vanished. I won’t go into everything else I tried with no success, but this worked. I am lucky enough to have an older MacBook (with Garageband 6 on it) lying around.
    – I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock,
    – used Go To Folder and typed /library/audio
    – went to the Apple Loops folder and dug down to the Apple Loops for Garageband folder
    – copied all the individual files inside that folder (i deliberately did not copy the folder itself) to a thumb drive
    – popped the thumb drive into my new MacBook Pro
    – with Garageband closed, using the same method as above, I made my way to the Apple Loops for Garageband folder
    – pasted the old files into the folder
    – You’ll get a dialog box asking about keeping both or replacing. I chose Replace and clicked the Apply To All option
    – Once the paste was complete I opened Garageband
    – Opened the Loop browser, clicked on the options arrow next Loop at the top of the browser, selected Reindex All Loops
    – All the old loops appeared in the loop browser

Haven’t done any extensive testing. Everything seems to be working. If you ran into the same problem I hope you can get your hands on Gband 6’s Apple Loop files.

  3. I’m wondering what I can do about getting loops for GarageBand on my iPad if I don’t have a Mac but have a PC instead. Thanks

  4. I’m trying to find the old GarageBand loops like Orchestral Strings 08 and other loops that were removed. I do not have a Mac and I have no idea where to find them. What should I do?
